Uchenna Onyebuchi Ezeokeke was born 29 November, four (4) decades ago. He studied Medical Radiography & Radiological Sciences at the great citadel of learning in Nigeria – The University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He also holds a Master of Health Planning & Management from the University of Maiduguri, Maiduguri.
Uchenna has a long experience in Medical Radiography, Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety, health planning & Management, Consulting, Environment and Education acquired from a career spanning over 18 years working in Government, Academia, Non-governmental and Private organizations. He specializes in radiation protection and nuclear safety, medical radiography, health planning & management, environmental protection and monitoring, radioactive waste management, environmental impact assessment, risks assessment and design & implementation of remediation strategies across diverse portfolios
He is a Scientist, Nuclear Regulator, Researcher, Consultant, Disruptor, Environmentalist, Medical Radiographer, Health Manager, Educator and an Entrepreneur. He is also a member of Team Nigeria World Solar Challenge (WSC) to design the 9jabolt solar car that was scheduled to compete at the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge (WSC) in Adelaide, Australia in October, 2019.
Uchenna worked extensively with the Ministry of Federal Capital Territory (as it was then known) and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) as Medical Imaging Scientist cum Radiation Safety Officer and also the Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) as a Scientific Officer cum Nuclear Regulator. He worked at the National Institute for Radiation Protection and Research (NIRPR) being a department under the supervision of NNRA and working in collaboration with the Physics Department at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State as a Scientific Officer. Uchenna, worked as a Visiting Assistant Lecturer with the University of Maiduguri for a year where he assisted in providing educational support for teaching of medical Radiography and radiation protection courses to undergraduate students as well as project supervision and examination invigilation.
In particular, Uchenna has been extremely successful in assisting the Nigerian Government in enforcing compliance with the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Act 1995 for Operators in the Oil & Gas, Health, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Transport and Educational sectors and also gazetting the Nigerian Basic Ionizing Radiation Regulations 2003 and other Practice-Specific Regulations in Industrial and Medical Application Safety.
In 2007, he was selected as one of the newest members of International WHO’S WHO Historical Society and appeared in the 2007 – 2008 edition of International WHO’S WHO of professionals, having demonstrated exemplary achievement and distinguished contributions to the business community.
Uchenna, was officially selected by The Presidency in 2009 on Nigerian Vision 20:2020 with other members as Member/Rapparteur Special Interest Group (YOUTH) with the responsibility of articulating the vision of Nigerian Youths and what need to be in place if Nigeria is to achieve its goal of being among the top twenty global economies in the year 2020. He was involved in the process leading to the final report and publication of the Vision Document.
Uchenna is a Chartered Radiation Protection Professional and holds professional membership with the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP), United Kingdom ; International Association for Radiation Protection; American Nuclear Society (ANS); International Society for Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT); Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) and Nigerian Red Cross Society. He also has some published articles in International Journals.
